PORTLAND, Ore. – Demonstrators protesting the shooting at Hoyt Arboretum on Monday gathered at East Burnside at 47th Tuesday night.
A KATU News photographer on the scene reported that one of the protesters threw a bike in an officer’s face. According to a police spokesperson, the officer was not seriously injured.
The video captured by the KATU News photographer appeared to show that a protester pushed his bike into a police motorcycle, perhaps because he felt the motorcycle officer was getting too close. In response, the officer revved his motorcycle and pushed back, which ignited the incident.
It is unclear whether the man will be charged with any crime.
Like last night’s protest, the demonstrators yelled obscenities and called police “pigs” and “murderers”.
The protesters identified themselves with a group called The Cascadia Convergence Network.
Police followed the group in cars and on motorcycles. They ordered the protesters out of the street and onto the sidewalks because they did not have a permit.
The protest began peacefully earlier in the evening and many protesters expressed their concerns about police; however, they were not really allowed to speak to the media and KATU’s cameras were blocked.
A KATU News crew was asked to leave by the protesters from a public park. It did.
