Thieves clean out bike repair shop before it can open

PORTLAND, Ore. - A man days away from realizing his dream of opening his own bike shop is now wondering what he's going to do after burglars made off with his tools and two customers' bikes.

Tom Daly was set to open his new shop this week, but over the weekend, thieves made it through the barbed-wire fence surrounding his shop near Southeast 11th and Clay Street in Portland.

Daly said they got away with tools, bikes and a big piece of his dream. Daly said he will keep one reminder of the incident with him forever: the broken padlock that kept the gate shut to his business.

He admitted that he was naive to think a padlock would keep crooks out of his shop and away from his tools. Daly said most of his tools were stolen.

Three year old stabbed in East Portland scuffle

A police presence remains at the intersection of Southeast 129th Avenue and Powell Boulevard. This  area is known as the Powellhurst/Gilbert Neighborhood.

They are there to investigate a disturbance call that came in shortly after 5 p.m. today. The call came from the 3300 block of Southeast 129th Avenue.

Officers arrived to find a toddler with a stab wound. Medical units respond and the child, identified by one officer as a 3-year-old girl, was transported to a local hospital.

Police say the child is going to make it. They also say it appears the stabbing was a result of the girl being in the middle of a domestic argument between two adults.

Police have taken a female adult into custody. Domestic crimes involving a child become automatic felonies in Multnomah County.

Police have a crisis bus at the scene, and our photographer on the scene tells us they have shut the one-way dead-end street off to motorists coming in. The crisis bus is to provide police and those responding with coffee and other away-from-the-office comforts.
